I am writing you to ask for your support in co-sponsoring HR 4046, the Fisheries Recovery Act, that has been introduced in the House by Wayne Gilchrist.

Despite the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, catastrophes continue to beset the US Fisheries and Ocean Environment, such as the recent closure of the groundfish fishery off of California and the West coast, resulting in the loss of jobs and production of food as well as representing damage done to the environment.

Magnuson needs to be strengthened if we are to have any functional US Fisheries in the 21st Century and preserve wild fish stocks and ocean environment.

HR 4046 appears to be the best answer at hand.

My devotion to the cause stems from my personal concern for the damage being done to the oceans and their natural residents by continued overfishing and the use of destructive technologies. As a longtime sport diver and ocean lover I have seen myself first hand the changes wrought by overfishing over the last 25 years.

They must STOP.
